Tokyo Gorilla

2009 is the year of gorilla at the Ueno Zoological Garden. For me, a good opportunity for an extensive photo session with one of the most expressive animals. It was one of the best moments I had this year in Tokyo, two years ago when I visited the Zoo I was able just to catch a glimpse of them, sleeping under the shade. This year, I managed to catch the feeding time… and here’s what I saw…
This gorilla is from the Western Lowland subspecies (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), the most commonly found in the zoological gardens. The Ueno Zoo provides for the Gorilla a great habitat, a big place called the “Gorilla Woods".

They were pretty shy when I visited Ueno in '07, they just sat with their backs to everyone enjoying their lunch, the Otters on the other hand were crazy!
