The Nakagin Capsule Tower

I learned from The New York Times that two years ago, the residents of Nakajin Capsule Tower voted in favor of demolition. Even that the building has been listed for the World Heritage, since 1996, by the International Committee of Docomomo International, the tower is still standing only because of lack of funds for demolition.

Nakagin Capsule Tower, designed by the architect Kurokawa Kisho, was completed in 1972. Built in the Metabolist style, the tower consists of 140 capsules, designed to be detachable and replaceable. However, this possibility was never used, because of the very high costs.

Presently, the tower is in a bad shape. Still, I think that this building, reconditioned and eventually transformed into a tourist attraction, could still be successful.

Nakagin Capsule Tower

Am aflat dintr-un articol din New York Times, că acum doi ani, locatarii lui Nakajin Capsule Tower au votat pentru demolare. Cu toate că a fost trecut pe lista World Heritage de către International Committee of Docomomo International încă din anul 1996, faptul că turnul este încă în picioare se datorează doar lipsei de fonduri pentru demolare.

Nakagin Capsule Tower a fost dat în folosinţă în 1972 şi este opera arhitectului Kurokawa Kisho. Construit în stilul Metabolist, turnul este compus din 140 de capsule, construite astfel încât se pot detaşa şi înlocui. Totuşi, acest lucru nu s-a întâmplat niciodată, din cauza costurilor foarte mari.

Chiar dacă acum este într-o stare proastă, părerea mea este că această clădire, recondiţionată şi transformată într-o atracţie turistică, ar putea avea succes.
