Japan’s love for Mount Fuji, the most famous place in Japan, remained unchanged over the years. Fuji-san (富士山) is definitely the most represented place from Japan, starting with the ukiyo-e paintings, continuing with the first sepia/black-and-white photos and with today’s photos, when we can easily admire it even from space…
However, although it’s a lot easier today to take a photo of Mount Fuji, the smog and pollution makes it harder, so you have to be a little lucky to see it.
Let’s enjoy a selection of century old photos with Mount Fuji, from a time when it was harder to take a picture of it, but a lot easier to… see it.

A fulfilled desire, Mount Fuji in twilight

I wrote two weeks ago, when I started my trip to Japan, that this year I have a special desire, to see Mount Fuji from Tokyo. Yesterday, when I was in the Tokyo Metropolitan Building, I catched a glimpse, but I couldn’t take a photo.
Today I’m very happy: Mount Fuji was visible from the Kasai Rinkai Park, from sunset until dusk. Here are some photos:
