From December 3rd to 14th, in Kobe will take place the 15th edition of the Kobe Luminarie light festival, an artistic event also known as “sculptures of light", commemorating the approx. 6000 victims of the Great Hanshin earthquake from 1995.

“Luminarie” is the plural form of the Italian word luminaria, and the meaning is light decorations with miniature bulbs. The similarities of the decorations with the Italian cathedrals are not accidental, the installations were designed by Valerio Festi, art director to the Italian company Studio Festi.
The theme varies each year, and this year will be L’abbraccio della Luce (Embrace of the Light). The decorations will be lit each evening for several hours, and it is expected to be admired by millions of viewers.
I compiled a set of the most representative 20 Creative Commons photos from Flickr, representing the decorations from the previous years.
