The first train ride in Japan took place in the year 1872, from Tokyo, Shimbashi to Yokohama.
At the anniversary of one hundred years from this event, a steam locomotive was installed on the square in front of the JR Shimbashi station.
At night, the locomotive is multi-colored illuminated and today it is one of the best-known images of Shimbashi.
