Old and new photos - Buddha statues at Senso-ji Temple

A photo from the Old Japan site draw my attention today, with the two Buddha statues from Senso-ji, photo taken in 1880.

The bronze statues, 2.36m in hight, represents Bodisattva Avalokiteshvara on the right and Bodisattva Seshi on the left. In 1687, Takase Zenbee from Takebayashi (Gunma prefecture today) made these statues to repay the debt of gratitude to the rice wholesaler family that helped him, the Avalokiteshivara for the father and the Seishi for the son.

I photographed the two statues on a full moon night, when they looked like radiating holy light, like Buddha’s bowl from the legend (Taketori Monogatari).

Mi-a atras atenţia o fotografie de pe site-ul Old Japan, cu cele două statui ale lui Buddha de la Senso-ji, făcută în anul 1880.

Statuile din bronz, de 2,36 m înălţime, reprezentând pe Bodisattva Avalokiteshvara (în dreapta) şi pe Bodisattva Seshi, au fost realizate în anul 1687 de Takase Zenbee din Takebayashi (astăzi prefectura Gunma), pentru a-şi exprima mulţumirea pentru pentru o familie de neguţători de orez care l-au ajutat.

Am fotografiat şi eu cele două statui, într-o noapte cu lună plină, când păreau că degajă lumină divină, ca vasul lui Buddha din legende (Taketori Monogatari).

Wow, beautiful picture!

Noticed that you were an Asakusa fan earlier, great place.

I'd love to see the picture a bit bigger since it's one of the greatest pictures of Buddha statues at night that I have ever seen.
