For those of you who asked me about my yesterday’s article (that was a blog matsuri entry, with some special requirements), here are more photos from this little known matsuri.
The Mizudome-no-Mai matsuri (Rain-Stopping Dance) takes place at the Gonshoji Temple, at the end of the rainy season (14th July).

Great photos!
Do you know what is the significance of the people wrapped up in the huge straw mats? And some of the other things going on? Why do they throw water? Just to cool off?

The men carried in straws represents the dragons, the gods of rain. The farmers, wanting to stop the rain, splash the dragons with water, while the dragons are blowing the horns...
