Inari Hokora in Washimiya
By Muza-chan on Nov 4, 2009 | In Japan travel | 13 feedbacks »
As I wrote about some time ago, I like very much these small shrines hokora, located on the side of the roads, like this one I discovered while strolling in Washimiya.

It is dedicated to Inari, kami of fertility, rice, agriculture and success. Inside, two pairs of kitsune guardians (males and females), the messengers of Inari.
It is one of the few shrines I’ve met left in disarray a little bit, with some statues fallen and with dried branches, but like this it seems to have even more charm…

They remind me of the many Romanian counterparts built alongside country roads. I got to count a dozen - quite a few new - north of Curtea de Arges yesterday, and the sample seems fairly representative for just about everywhere else in the country. Interesting...
Kudos for the blog!
